Hi all, Just a quick question regarding our rank pips on our uniforms and identity. When I graduated to an ensign, we received new uniforms. On my uniform collar, I have pips as Lt JG (i think) while my flip title says Ensign. I can understand that this is probably easier said than done, but shouldn't uniforms have no rank on at all and that the (prim)pips be given out upon promotions? (like at galas) I noticed Personnel Assistant Lead Stones had prim pips and since I joined personnel and received another new uniform without pips, I made my own Ensign pip. I think it would boost moral as well when we receive these pips at the Galas from our FAdmiral Bixby. Just a thought. (I have not been to a gala yet so she might already be doing that) Also, since the pips on our uniforms are not accurate, it would be easier to identify officer ranks if your flip title was up. I know most senior personnel have it up but many do not. We should wear our starfleet titles with pride. I know I do Your thoughts?

Hi Maharishi,
The uniforms that are issued upon passing the Cadet-to-Ensign exam should have a blank collar ready for prim pips. Perhaps you have been given one of the RP uniforms that is typically handed out prior to RPs to participants who don't have the proper colour for their intended station. Those uniforms have pips 'sewn' into them.
Also, you will notice that many StarFleet personnel have purchased an alternative uniform from a vendor aboard Infinity Station. Those uniforms give the entire complement of prim rank pips.
You are right in encouraging our members to wear their proper fliptitles to signify their ranks. The standard issue pips that SLQ hands out in fact have the floating rank text already attached to them helping in that regard.
I hope that helps clarify things.
Regards,
Sol.

From when I took my exam, I rememer the officer who took the exam didn't have the uniforms at that moment and so issued out the RP ones that had the four pin rank of captain 'sewn' in. Luckily I had my own uniform at hand and after checking to make sure it was still regulation I wore it with pride. I had previously, bought some rank pips from Infinity myself so I was able to equip myself there and then.
I was told that if I wanted a uniform I was to go to my chosen division head and request one from them.
As for the flip-title. I agree that people should wear it when in uniform. Although the rules state that you don't need to be in uniform while on the grounds. Except during events. While I disagree with this, it's not my place to fight the rules, and nothing stops me from wearing the uniform anyway. Besides, if people can see me with my 'Ensign - SLQ Starfleet Engineer' flip-title people that are new to the area are at least comforted in the knowledge that there are some enlisted officers about.
I know there are a lot of people that walk about in their uniform, but many do not have flip-titles the correct rank, or the correct group displayed as active. Myself, when I am in casual form do walk around galaxy in my casual clothes and under another group, but when I see someone asking questions about the group, I whip on the official clothes at the drag of a mouse and I see what I can do.
Not really an answer to the question, but it's a valid topic.

Thank you for pointing out the rank on uniforms and pips. SFCSLQ has pips that all members Ensign and above should have recieved upon graduating from Cadet to Ensign class. However fairly new personnel have been assisting with the ensign exams, and doing a great job! But I dont know that they even have the pips. I will follow up and make sure they do have the prim pips, these appear on the shirt and have a flip titled of the rank. The current ones used officially are made by Obanik soyinka, Lt. Lead Intellegence.

When I was promoted to Ensign I didn't realize that the fliptitle gaven to me was also my rank pip. I didn't like that flip title and took it off because you can't change it to say "Ensign Bristol" like you can with the cadet flip title.
Ensign Cyres Aida, I'm with you on wearing our uniforms with pride. I have bought many casual clothes and taken alot of free clothing from here and there but my favorite thing to wear is my uniform. Nothing gives you more of a sense of belonging when you are recognized that you belong to a group just by the clothes you wear.

The flip-title isn't really a rank. Not sure if it's even in the rules to wear one. I remember when I was a cadet that I was asked to keep my Cadet flip-title on as courtesy. I have always maintainted that initial impression that Solomon told me upon induction.
Rank pips are a good way of seeing rank, except that the peson has to be up close, I noticed recently that according to how I set my graphics preferences the pips actually vanish a certain distance away and not, as I had originally thought due to them slipping inside my neck, which is a problem.

Flip titles with the rank and name sounds like a great idea.

Hmm... now there's an idea. I wonder if we could make a fliptitle with a pip image over a persons head? It doesn't have to be large, Just division or sub in the colour of the department and then a little image of the pips floating above the head.
