it sounds like its going to be more of an RP mish-mash to me. It doesn't sound like they will have a structure like we do. So we shouldn't be under much threat.

doesn't sound like much to me, more like a big name trying to cash-in on a big franchise and make it harder for fans to make any, even a small amount L$'s from star trek. in theory they'll have the manpower and resources - sounds and textures etc etc- far superior to any that us poor fans can come up with. TBH from what I see it may very well just end up being a museum type affair with nothing but bridges and other stages from trek. one thing comes to mind though is copyright... whats going to happen to models, uniforms, etc created by the SL fan base if somebody like CBS comes in and uses the trek franchise?  Lets make everything that we make and do better than anything CBS can come up with and give them a real run for their money ;D Well I'm happy to stick with SFC-SLQ at least until Star Trek On-line comes out.  BTW thought that youTube video was kind of cool... |

What's different from a normal convention. People make their own Star Trek uniforms and parade about in them, yet they don't get chucked out for copying and nor should we. People make websites and use Star Trek fonts and LCARS from the show. If they ask us to take down our LCARS, we can make some, they are fairly simple to make anyway. As for models, they can't ban us from making them or selling them. They can stop us using the name Star Trek probably, but they can't stop us using the words Enterprise. Besides if they make models, then I for one will buy some as they are bound to be great. And we can learn from them to better ourselves. SLStarfleet sim aside, if it wasn't for us, the largest ST themed sim then they probably wouldn't be interested. Not saying SL Starfleet or other ST groups didn't have any input into the star trek world in SL, but I don't know much about them. I know that SLQ is the biggest and on the forums listed above, it was one that people thought of first before the other. That has to count for something. Well when STO comes out I'll play that too... I have 2 PC's. Both at same time! |
