I first visited SLQ a while back when I first sampled Second Life. I only spent a few days as my computer back then wasn't capable of running it... yes I admit my old computer was a bit of a relic back then. Back then though, I encountered the usual "what do I do now?" routine that normal gamers often get when thrown into a game (?) with no clear-cut objective. So I walked about, flew about and made a few random shapes, but due to excessive client-side lag it was just too painful to use. So I logged off.
Although not before speaking to a nice chap from SLQ. I think it was Solomon Flax, not too sure. He was just another face at the time.
Since then, I have picked up Second Life again, and not remembering my initial login, not that it still exists, I created a new persona by the name of Cyres Aida based on an old RP character I used in a Text (forums) based Sci-Fi RPG that I used to run.
With a PC that is now capable of running Second Life I typed in Star Trek and immediatly dropped in on SLQ where Solomon greeted me in much the same place as he (might have) did before. Before long I was a full fledged member of the academy and I was sporting a trendy new grey jumpsuit and Starfleet badge to match. Admittedly the all grey attire got tireing after about thirty minutes so I swapped the grey pants for black pants and the whole Star Trek feel came back, while still maintaining the Cadet appearance.
I stayed local to Galaxy for the two cadet weeks and probably annoyed the hell out of people asking questions - credit to shakaar's patience, who I go a lot of info from on building. I even met a new friend Antonio Bergbahn, who joined at the same time I had and we also graduated together, and even shared the same humble house together.
Graduation started the next stage of my Second Life. I was an Ensign and as such I needed a (2nd) life to match. I bought 7,000 m2 of residential land and immediatly went up to 600m and began construction of mine and Antonio's home. It started out as a bunch of prefabbed skybox-buildings with some nifty tubes connecting them. As my building experience increased, the quality of my home increased and I retro-fitted my walls, floor and cielings with my own creations, got rid of my spaghetti of tubes and elevators, that rather embarrasingly trapped Admiral Cobramax in while he was taking a look about. I instead installed a central shaft linking all the levels together that works wonderfully and removed the need for external tubes that takes up prims and space.
Now, basic construction is complete and I have a six floor space station with details as such.
Floor 0: Excersise Yard, Command Centre with divisional areas for departments.
Floor 1: Critical Command Centre/Special Ops Area.
Floor 2: Medical Bay with direct Docking Facilities.
Floor 3: Hangar Bay with forcefield.
Floor 4 (not elevator accessible): Brig, Storage Area, Shuttle Viewing Area, Astrometrics Bay (new), Emergency Control Area (hidden/new).
Floor 5: Large Ship Docking Bay.
Feel free to stop over and take a look, I'm in Fairweather residential at about 650-750m up in the air. I'm at work at the moment so I can't give the actual coordinates but once you get to Fairweather, you can't fail to notice my home once you fly about a bit.
I invited Phased Maltz over during the latter stages of construction and as such he invited me into the Engineering Dept, a title I wear proudly. I hope I can do the department justice.
My next project, headed by Antonio Bergbahn is to help him set up his Borg sim to extend the RP area of the sim. I have gone and bought myself a nice new custom L$3,000 borg suit so I hope I can put it to use in assimilating some starfleet minions.
The Borg sim will be a part of the group known as 'Unimatrix 01', an open group for all you borg loving people out there.
I'm still learning, but there are things that I enjoy doing and building is one of them.
For the record, I have knowledge of web design, using Dreamweaver, Photoshop CS1 and CS2 and I also have experience in modding phpBB boards. I write fiction for my own benefit, but have recieved good reviews on the ones that have been posted over the years. I'm tolerant and fair, but I have a short fuse for people who 'grief' or negelct manners just because they can't physically see the person they are talking too.
If you see me lurking about galaxy sandbox or the plaza, just say Hi! I always enjoy talking to new people and sharing experiences.
So bye for now. See you about the Galaxy.
