What kind of music do you want to hear at the new Ten Forward?
As part of planning for the club I would like to take this time to find out from our members what type of music they would like to hear. Providing you with great music and fun activities is our main priority at Ten Forward and in order to do that we need your help in determining what kind of music you want to hear. The dance club will be open mostly on the weekends and a few days during the week with live DJ's playing your favorite music and taking requests throughout the night. If i find there are 2 or 3 specific kinds of music that is desired among our members then that is what will be played mostly at the club. So put in your votes and let me know!

Rock is a very broad term. Classic Rock IS rock, as well as Guns 'n' Roses. Incubus is also rock and McFly, Metal can also be a variant of rock as metal genre often crosses over into Classic Rock status such as Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica.
Maybe it should be a choice between:
Modern Rock Alternative Classic Rock Pop Country/Blues Rap/R'n'B
Or you can go even further and list types of rock such as; blues, classic, acoustic, etc..

Wow... talk about your details! lol However, you are correct. There are two reasons I just put rock instead of breaking it up as you suggested. One... it was 2am in the morning and I was extremely tired at work and trying not to fall asleep. Two... well see the previous . And seeing how the poll is already up, i can't change it now. I can't give too many choices considering most people aren't that specific on what they want to hear and i can't be that specific with the music because i have to have a wide variety anyway. Generally rock includes a wide variety of music like you said and most people that listen to rock enjoy the various genres that are grouped as rock. The DJ's will have freedom to play what they would like but if people want to hear more rock music rather then R&B then the DJ's would stick to that genre more then R&B. So even though rock is a very broad term, its the easiest to use in this case. I do, however, appreciate your input as always.

What about a Jukebox?
Perhaps this is already available somewhere, but I could see a virtual jukebox that accesses a stream server's library and adds the selection to the streaming server.
Such a widget can be written using HTML access functions of scripting, and would also need somebody to host a stream server. A free streaming service can be used to distribute back to the clients.
Just like a real jukebox it could have a paying mode (L$1/song L$3/5 songs) to help with the fundraising....

I thought about that, but we'd need a library of songs available on a server that can be accessed and streamed. To stream this sort of thing constantly would put enormous strain on a normal domestic connection when used for casual use. It would ideally involve a dedicated connection to a streaming server.
Unless there are servers out there that do a song selection service it then I doubt it would happen. Unless the songs were strung together from snippets of 10 second clips. Then we have the problem of lag affecting the order in which they were played.
For events, the Admirals used a streaming server of some sort, but it does eat up a lot of bandwidth unless they have a dedicated connection or they hire a server for the event. Either way to get a server for this purpose is too expensive.
There might be another way around it if you can have a place where the files can be stored and retrieved easily enough.
We'd also need to turn it off when we have the DJ playing live.
