What time is it best to host a Roleplay at? Apparently, the Friday time was at a horrible time, so which should it be placed at?
I'm really worried... I can't host roleplays at every exact time, yet all the GMs save me, Dolamite, and Cobra quit due to them being walked on ALL THE TIME. Roleplay leads are volunteers, yet we just get walked over, bossed about by cadets, shunned by those who don't rp here, the victim of Armchair Leads who NEVER attend a rp yet seem to be an expert of Roleplaying... *sighs* Maybe it's just me, I don't know...

Talon, I'm really looking forward to actully getting along to an RP session some time.. hopefully soon. Timing of events is never going to be easy. So many of us are scattered around the various time-zones, and then there are some of us (*ahem*) who are in other time-zones AND work a silly shift system too! Giving some thought to your situation, I've a couple of suggestions that may or may not be of use to you. Please use or discard as appropriate... I know that an RP 'class' has been mooted, and may very well be in store with the changes in the Academy that are forthcoming, but how about a 'Pre-RP' session as per the Pre-Tactical session. It doesn't have to be long, and just a quick guide to help new-comers know what to expect, and what is expected of them. Obviously, if it is done by the GM that will be leading that day's RP session, it can be geared by them to meet their style of RP too. As to the timing of the event.. how about trying various times over a few weeks to see which ones attract the most people. I'd say that the times must be best suited to the person conducting the RP, for without them there is no session. I realise that there can be no session without participants, (the ONE session I went to was cancelled due to lack of attendees) but hopefully times can be found that will result in a good attendance. I admire your willingness to open up the subject to suggestions, and hope that you will get the necessary feedback to encourage you to continue with this task. Take heart... there are always possibilities.

What time is it best to host a Roleplay... Hey Talon, I'm happy that someone cares about this subject as much as you do and is attempting to make role-playing more accessible to all those who want to RP. Good job. In the old days of the sailing ship commercial shippers used to dock in the harbor for weeks and weeks until their hold was full of goods, and only then would they sail. If you were a manufacturer with customers abroad you had to deal with this very significant variable beyond your control or content yourself to only sell locally to markets that could be reached by horse and wagon. Then, one day it all changed dramtically. Some bright shipping company decided to post a schedule of the dates on which their ships would sail, and a ship would sail no matter how full or empty it was. At first, there were quite a few ships crossing the seas with only a few orders inside their holds, and the shippers lost money. But, it wasn't long before the manufacturers began to realize that with guaranteed shipping dates they could guarantee delivery times. Customers loved this new idea, naturally, and lined up in droves to place new orders. Soon, the cycle was complete with suppliers, shippers and customers coordinating their activities around set schedules. And, they all became filthy rich! lol Maybe, if you posted set times for RP sessions (of your choosing because you are the lead, after all) and simply kept at it for a while those of us who want to RP would eventually coordinate our schedules to accommodate. If you can figure out when the best times would be for the most RPers, great, but don't wait for them to tell you first because that may never happen. After a while, once we get a dedicated group, you might be able to poll participants about better times to hold RP sessions. But right now, all you need is a partner or two to get things going. I offer to help you there, just contact me and we'll agree on some dates and times. ...shunned by those who don't rp here... There was once a king who---oh, forget that story! lol I am always pleased to be shunned by SLers who don't support role-playing. The act of shunning is the best proof that the persons ignoring me can be safely ignored in return. Once you get a solid RP group meeting on a regular basis you might see more interest from them. And if not, lol, who cares!

Talon, if you get a chance, add me to your AIM, Yahoo or MSN Messenger. I can share with you some of my experience from over 12 years of roleplaying across the internet, and some ideas that might help you in your current position.
