Bi-Annual Ball June2006

Friday June 23th 2006 6:30pm game time, repeated June 24 2am SLT and again 10:am. The event is repeated to allow for various time zone participation it will be held at Galaxy Sim. Promotions, awards and rank changes will be officially distributed. The following are the standard awards:
Legion of Merit
Awarded to officers who shall have distinguished
themselves by exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services"
Meritorious Service Medal
Awarded to any member of Starfleet who distinguishes themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service to the StarFleetCommand SLQ.

Starfleet Commendation Medal
Awarded to members of Starfleet who while serving in any capacity with the StarFleetCommand SLQ, shall have distinguished themselves by meritorious achievement and service.

Red Crest
Awarded to a member of Starfleet who has suffered major or
permanent injuries while showing extraordinary courage in the fulfilling of his or her duties.

Starfleet Achievement Medal
Awarded to Starfleet personnel for outstanding achievement or meritorious service rendered specifically on behalf
of the StarFleetCommand SLQ.

StarFleetCommand SLQ Star
Awarded to a person who while a member of Starfleet, distinguishes himself conspicuously above and beyond the call of duty and has exemplified
self sacrifice, given significant time, energy, effort, personal and monetary contribution and coordination of efforts to help promote the group.

The bi-Annual Ball will be held on Galaxy. A temporary ballroom will be created for the event.

The event is usually well attended by the SL population and is a special occasion to those receiving awards and promotions in the presence of their friends and SL families.

The following is a list of services and items needed for the ball. This is a request that members (that have time)assist with building, creating, and planning of the event.

1. Certificate awards - The names of the recipients would be given to you. You would create certificates. This is a word processing function that would be done outside of the SL game on some word processing program, or photo shop and then import the item and put it on a prim for distribution at the ball. Keep in mind that piano falling out of the sky, flatting the recipient, may be funny to you but the friends of the av could be devastated.

2. Creation of medal case for medal pins distribution.
Something crafty and nice that can display the medal at a avs home or office. Could have hover text a scrip even. It is a hot group event however a fire lite touch shot into the recipients buttox, may not make a good impression of SFCSLQ.

3. Dance balls. While we have a small dance machine
I have found nice balls to be a lot of fun. If you have some good balls to share, we can put them to good use you can put them out. We can jump on them and have racy ride or slow dance.

4. A raffle ball. That distributes and collects cash would be nice. Do you have one or can make one? Make sure it has a few thousand in it and set to the Katrina Bixby group. Smiles....

5. A StarFleet movie! SL web site has information on
how to create a in game movie. It would be great to have a movie about SFCSLQ. We can assist u with pictures of the groups history. Or Have members act and do a show We have 2 members that have movie studios. Of course Galaxy can be a set all. " Elvis has left the building." " I'll be back" " Stella"!

6. Entertainment! We will have a DJ and our own
music. But it would be nice to have something different. I had a discussion with Activities Lead Zania Turner and LT Jr Grade Obanik about having a SFCSLQ band! Any ideas? BTW while nude AVs jumping out of a prim cake may be entertaining not everyone will appreciate it.

7. Photography for the event, At each ball which there are 3, there needs to be a designated photographer. There also needs to be pre-set pose balls for picture taking. Any one have a paper Klingon or Farangy to display?

8. Promotions - 2 weeks prior to the event promotions and award recipients will be listed on the forms. As well as a notification sent to the AV. Division leaders, and persons of rank higher then ensign, need to make promotion recommendations, and have at least 2 others of higher rank then the person nominated to agree.

9. The ball will have a recommended donation of $35L
It is a donation so it is optional. A donation box deeded to the group will be placed in the museum. Just so you know a box deeded to the group will pay group dividends to members weekly when you get your linden stipend.

10. We have grand ballroom interior items, tables with table cloths, food, eat animation, beverage, deserts, chandeliers. Do you have some ideas? Please help to make this a grand affair. Ghost, chain saws, and bloody darts are not classy enough.

11. Publicity! we need SL news coverage. Ideas to let ppl know about what SFC is up too! any ideas?

If I could be sent an image of a previous certificate outside of Second Life, I can gladly make the certificates for this time around in Photoshop.

Also, I was thinking of buying a custom bartender, which could have a cut-out image of Guinan and would offer a variety of Star Trek drinks. If I can get a copyable version, perhaps a second one could be set up with the image of Quark. They could not only serve as bartenders, but would also be great for great picture opportunities!

Love the cut out idea, dont know where u would get that. Admiral cobra max has the certificate designs we will have to get drafts from him.

Currently locating and organizing materials for catering and serving for the banquet and will deliver these materials to Officer Mann ASAP. These materials include:

1) Pictures, unedited and edited, of Neelix, Guinan, and Quark. If any other servers are desired, please contact me and I will add them to my materials.

2) A list of in-game inter-galatic drinks and notecards for each drink with RL recipes.

3) A list of Star Trek themed RL drinks with recipe cards.

4) A list of inter-galatic food items with a description for each.

5) A menu with each food and beverage item organized so that each item can be located with ease, for example, for Plomeek Soup, one would choose (insert desired food title, e.g. "Eat"), then choose the planet they hail from (Vulcan), then choose "Plomeek Soup."

6) Hopefully, one wave file or audio file available for each server to add interaction with the attendee and the server. Currently, the only file located is for Guinan.

Unfortunately, I am new to SL and to Starfleet so I am not able to create the desired finished product for the banquet, but strongly request that I may be present in observing the creation of all listed above. I am very eager to learn as much as possible and to be as helpful as well. If any changes need to be made to the package I am creating, please let me know whether I am missing something or do not need to include certain files.

I actually have a very large list of drinks that are Star Trek related, accumulated from various resources and divided up by category. That gives us a huge head start there, and all we need is the list of foods, and someone to create them for the bartenders/food servers. ;-)

Interesting? Ill tell what we have, you may want to use them and change or add more star trek related items.

a) T-bone, potato and green bean dinner plates, with steam

b) Eating utensils, fork spoon that attach to av hand

c) eating animation that u can turn on and off

d) desert table that looks great, with lots of goodies that u can
touch for a plate. and animation

e) Apple cider container u touch for a cup, blood wine in a
goblet. regular drinks wine, rum etc.

f) Long banquet tables, round dinner tables and chairs

g) 6 Christal chandeliers

Entertainment: At present we have

1. SFC DJ Obanik Soyinka

2. SFC Band, underdevelopment

3. Band uniforms being made by Helz

4. Promotion and awards to be presented

5. Medals to be presented

6. DO Award acknowledgment (under development)


7. The program Zania made, that Cobramax showed me
is very nice. So i suppose there is a program hand out
for guest at the ball.

A question about the Ball's dress code. Are we required to wear Star Fleet Dress Uniforms only to the ball, or will Formal Wear be suitable? The reason I ask is that the Dress Uniforms, unadorned and without the rainbow fruit salad of commendations and medals earned, is rather plain and well, not to put to fine a point on it, quite ugly. Where some of us will no doubt find it suitable, I personally would rather not have to wear it as it is, and I'm sure there are others among the group that might share this same ideal of aesthetics. This is not a slam on whoever designed it for SL, but merely an opinion from someone who has worn military dress uniforms before in Formal capacity. Feedback is appreciated, and I look forward to this Ball.

All members are required to wear Star Fleet Formal Uniforms to the Ball. Guests can wear what they want but are encouraged to wear no prim or low prim outfits. You may wish to change to a non starfleet formal outfit after the Ball for the Dance and other activities.

The formal uniform provided to members is expected to be worn, however if some one has made one like it, it may be warn. That will be acceptable to wear as well.

The Ballroom above the HQ is comming along very nicely. Kale is doing a great job. Cinfull Has added items and myself the palace is starting to look great. Lt. Commander Squagmire has set up a system that we will be able to stream into the event voices of officers. This should be a great event.
