[15:23] RoBobby McMillan: You most likely have noticed already: the one and only Sci-fi writer Keith RA DeCandido was here today. If you will bare with me, I shall tell you how this all came to be.

[15:23] RoBobby McMillan: During a tour of the Library, Fleet Admiral Bixby asked me that she would really like to see the Library Lectures return. In the past -before I joined- there had been several authors, and people who could tell something about Star Trek, who came to SLQ to tell about their profession, their interests, and so on. I immediately got interested in this, and decided to set up a meeting with my Library staff. How to handle this?
[15:23] RoBobby McMillan: My staff was great. They gave me several names who I could contact, and e-mail addresses, or sites, where I could contact them. Mr. DeCandido's name was on top of the list. I thought 'why would a famous author like KRAD ever come to SLQ?', but I invited him anyway. And what do you know? Mr. DeCandido immediately agreed! He did confess though, that he had never heard of Second Life before. This, was about a month or so ago.
[15:24] RoBobby McMillan: He and I continued to exchange emails. Finally, that contact lead to me suggesting him he'd come online to just have a tour around the sim, a week before today. He agreed. . . but ultimately it didn't happen to be. Mr. DeCandido was too busy with other things. And still, I had no SL name.
[15:24] RoBobby McMillan: Finally, I received his SL name yesterday. Today, he came online, about 20 minutes before the lecture. You have to hand it to him: he's a relaxed guy who takes his time, doesn't rush anything, and has an air of tranquillity to him. He wasn't worried. I can tell you though, I was. ;-)

[15:24] RoBobby McMillan: KRAD told us that he had no experience in Second Life. Also, he informed the people already assembled for the lecture that SL had crashed on him before when he was testing the program. Nevertheless, he did step up the stage, and started his lecture. Or well, a lecture. . . it was more like a question and answer session. And what an interesting session it was!
[15:25] RoBobby McMillan: Half way through though, the exact same thing as KRAD warned us about, happened. He crashed. He came back after that. . . but he crashed again. And again. Finally, he mailed me, saying that he would not try again: his computer might be damaged from the attempts. Remember, his computer is his livelihood! He put that at risk to come to talk to us. Now there's a man who is dedicated to his fans!
[15:25] RoBobby McMillan: Not to worry though. KRAD has agreed to visit our forums, and to keep in touch. So if you have questions you'd like him to answer, either wait until he comes to our forums, or send me a notecard with the questions: I'll make sure he gets it then. And who knows, maybe we'll see Mr. DeCandido again, at the December bi-annual ball. There is a special Starfleet medal waiting there, with his name on it. . .

[15:23] RoBobby McMillan: You most likely have noticed already: the one and only Sci-fi writer Keith RA DeCandido was here today. If you will bare with me, I shall tell you how this all came to be.

[15:23] RoBobby McMillan: During a tour of the Library, Fleet Admiral Bixby asked me that she would really like to see the Library Lectures return. In the past -before I joined- there had been several authors, and people who could tell something about Star Trek, who came to SLQ to tell about their profession, their interests, and so on. I immediately got interested in this, and decided to set up a meeting with my Library staff. How to handle this?
[15:23] RoBobby McMillan: My staff was great. They gave me several names who I could contact, and e-mail addresses, or sites, where I could contact them. Mr. DeCandido's name was on top of the list. I thought 'why would a famous author like KRAD ever come to SLQ?', but I invited him anyway. And what do you know? Mr. DeCandido immediately agreed! He did confess though, that he had never heard of Second Life before. This, was about a month or so ago.
[15:24] RoBobby McMillan: He and I continued to exchange emails. Finally, that contact lead to me suggesting him he'd come online to just have a tour around the sim, a week before today. He agreed. . . but ultimately it didn't happen to be. Mr. DeCandido was too busy with other things. And still, I had no SL name.
[15:24] RoBobby McMillan: Finally, I received his SL name yesterday. Today, he came online, about 20 minutes before the lecture. You have to hand it to him: he's a relaxed guy who takes his time, doesn't rush anything, and has an air of tranquillity to him. He wasn't worried. I can tell you though, I was. ;-)

[15:24] RoBobby McMillan: KRAD told us that he had no experience in Second Life. Also, he informed the people already assembled for the lecture that SL had crashed on him before when he was testing the program. Nevertheless, he did step up the stage, and started his lecture. Or well, a lecture. . . it was more like a question and answer session. And what an interesting session it was!
[15:25] RoBobby McMillan: Half way through though, the exact same thing as KRAD warned us about, happened. He crashed. He came back after that. . . but he crashed again. And again. Finally, he mailed me, saying that he would not try again: his computer might be damaged from the attempts. Remember, his computer is his livelihood! He put that at risk to come to talk to us. Now there's a man who is dedicated to his fans!
[15:25] RoBobby McMillan: Not to worry though. KRAD has agreed to visit our forums, and to keep in touch.
