I applied Friday to become a member. By Monday I was a little concerned that I hadn't heard anything so I ask and was immediately added to the group. I was told my app was process, but just missed. I can understand that, it happens. Also on Friday I was told that an IM when to my department head. I was told the same thing on Monday. Should I be expecting anything from someone or is that it? I see the group is very well organized, but do you have someone that talks to the new people? I'd like to know what expectations there are of me. How do the different departments work? How does one move up in rank or do I even have rank? Thank you for your time.

This has been something that has been discussed before in house. One thing that will smooth out the transition hopefully is an orientation class being developed. The issue of the disconnect from application processing to invite usually happens at certain times of the day. An example is a person who wants to join may be able to find a Personnel officer online late at night or in the early morning, but often, no other links in the chain (subdivision leads or Admiralty) are online, understandably, given the hour. One suggested remedy to this is holding office hours for recruitment where all the pieces in the puzzle can be present and ready to operate together.
I just wanted to post this to indicate that we are aware of the problem and are working to eliminate the bttlenecks in the system, Cresley.

Hi Cresley, Sorry that you have been having difficulty with getting into the group. I'm sure Angelica has done everything possible to make sure your application was processed. I did receive you application from her and it was turned into my superiors to be made into an ID. Also sometimes it maybe that the lead officer did not sign on for a day or two. But whatever the reason is, we assure you that we will help you along the way. Angelica is right, we are in the process of fine tuning the process and maybe it will help to have office hours so that everyone is aware of them and can expect to find a personnel officer during certain hours. I did leave a message to the lead as well today and please IM me and let me know if you still have not spoken to your dept lead by tomorrow night. I am always glad to help

Thanks for the replies. And thanks for the IM's yesterday. I was able to join in on a couple of things. Fell off the tallest building in Galaxy, twice. Felt good to shoot at some people. SL's way of going postal.

Welcome to the SFCSLQ group Noland, I have not had an opportunity yet to meet you. I am Fleet Admiral Katrina Bixby. The lead of your division should be contacting you however you are encouraged to contact them.
In the new member kit there are details about the enlistment process, I hope you have reviewed them, also some details about promotions.
To participate in events, you may want to go to do a search in the Linden SL event calendar. There is a upcoming box you can click also that will list future events. In the new member kit you obtained from the Roddenberry Plaza there is a listing of group regular events.
You are a ensign, do you have your over head rank display?
When You game any of the members are officers will be more then happy to assist you. smiles

Just to add to Fadm Katrina's post for new recruits, the suggestion given by her is very helpful as well. That is another way to know what's going on with Starfleet.
For anyone in general, what I like to do after I have finished taking the picture for the ID, I advise them the name of their lead office for the subdivision they chose and that I will IM them to have them added to that division. I do a run-down of things that would give the new recruit some idea of whats going on, or what they should be or can be doing. What I do is give them a notecard of regular events and I summarize the important events or things that they definately want to do. I will emphasize the general meeting on Sundays as they can find out whats currently going on, announcements, division reports and other helpful information. I do let them know that alot of members attend this meeting and to be there early. I also let them know the importance of registering on the forum as not only announcements are made here but your division lead may post a call for a meeting, also Academy classes are announced here, polls are done here, you have the ability to make a suggestion here and its actually answered, and if you miss the general meeting the transcripts are posted here. I also let them know of the roleplays and tacticals and that participation is important and also of the upcoming bi annual ball and how important that event is as well. If at the time I am telling the member about the events and there is a tactical or rp event about to start, I will even tell them that if they stick around that event will be starting soon. I see that it has been effective for alot of members as it is noticeable on Sundays at the general meeting, might have to start adding chairs soon!
If anyone has another suggestion besides orientation on what else can be told to a new recruit please post them here!
