I'm against weapons in Galaxy for most people, because we've all seen those avatars carrying around Schwarzenegger sized cannons, two swords on their back, a pistol holstered, and a daggers strapped to their thighs....it gives the impression to visitors that Galaxy is a very hostile environment.
A good exception to this would be those in the Tactical department, as they can patrol the sim and handle griefers.

Again i feel the need to remind everyone that we are Starfleet...not Cowboys....( and we all know how well the old west ran with ever one carrying guns) There are rules and protocols that go along with being a pseudo military orginization...and i dare say that if you go to any military base here, the only ones you will find armed are the Duty officer and the on duty Security personel...the only other place you will find weapons in site will be at training exercises....The way the public views us is the way the Great Speckled Bird of the Galaxy created it...Peaceful...Exploration of the universe....The only time weapons are seen on Star Trek is during a state of yellow alert. and then only Security and Tactical personel..and then at Red Alert (intruder alert) the entire crew is then armed to defend the Ship, Star base (ect.)..and for those of you who do not know who the Great Speckled Bird of the Galaxy is...That is the name given to Gene Roddenberry..The man with the vision to conceive of the Star Trek universe...and it's PEACEFUL intent. When walking around the Academy you never see armed personnel. When walking around a Star base, you never see armed personnel. Only in a state of emergency (attack) do you see the weapons come out. and then only as a last resort used....So I say Weapons if allowed for DO and on duty Security personnel only....And on Duty Security must be registered with the DO...That way the DO knows who is on...and who to call if back up were needed by the DO..And i would suggest no more than two on duty Security personnel with each DO....that way it is easier to keep up with. and reduces the number of visible weapons at Galaxy..
...Does any one remember in TOS "Specter of the Gun." Kirk ignores an alien buoy that warns the U.S.S. Enterprise that it is trespassing into Melkotian space and continues forward when the Melkots transport Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, and Chekov to a recreation of Earth's wild west. Here their instruments will not function and they are forced to relive, in "a manner befitting their heritage for trespassing," the shoot-out in Tombstone, Arizona on October 26, 1881. The U.S.S. Enterprise party is transported to the OK Corral, but as they will not fire on the "Earps," the gunfighters cannot hurt them. Chekov, in the role of Billy Claiborne, is killed and Spock realizes that these events are not really transpiring. Through a series of mind melds, Spock is able to reject the illusions of the hostiles enabling the crew to succeed without shooting at the others. The Melkots are impressed by the peaceful behavior of the U.S.S. Enterprise party and return them, including Chekov, who had been killed in an earlier altercation, to the U.S.S. Enterprise. The Melkots agree to establish contact with the Federation.
Note that they are impressed by the Peaceful intent...When Kirk and company throw away their Guns, so there will be no blood shed...no possibility of gun play...Again we are not cowboys...we are Starfleet...representatives of the United Federation of Planets..We must always put our best face forward...and running around with ever one armed to the teeth is not the way .....DO, and Two on duty Security only...My suggestion...

As I asked in my previous post, what are we going to constitute a weapon?
A vehicle that could be used to ram into someone, or could even fire on someone?
A shield that orbits someone?
A HUD that can orbit someone?
IF we are going to go with this, I think we're going to be fighting a losing battle. There are different opinions on what is a weapon, and what is not. Some may not want to remove something that could differ from what our opinion of a weapon might be.
The rules to the sim, especially the ones that pertain to weapons, do not automatically dispense when a person TPs into Galaxy. I feel that it should. That way, the rules are right in their faces, and they can see what they would be then, which will then make it easier for others to enforce.
The ultimate line of defense, in regards to dealing with weapons in Galaxy, is if the DOs could be added to the security device, to where they can add names of those who are not abiding by the rules and TP them out of the sim, which would be added to the report that they'd need to file at the end of their shift. Let the decision as to whether or not these individuals, who violate the rules, can come back (or even when they can come back) up to the Admirals.

Is a mecha avatar any less a weapon than a phaser? A simple walking stick is every bit as lethal in the paws of oneone trained to use it. Are you going to pull the teeth and declaw any Dragon or Furry Avatars to get rid of thier natural weapons? I'm with Zania, let's figure out what kinds of weapons we are talking about beofre making a sweeping decision that is either too much or not enough because no one bothered to define what kinds of weapons wer are talking about. And then leave it up to the judgement of the DO as to what the intent of the weapons display was.

If am right I blive that there talking about Guns and Rockits lanchers..
After think about this I think also that guns and phasers should be hiden from vistors on galaxy. I know we all love those super weapons that we make and love to show them off to the vistors. but here a thought Get someone to build a Display case and Place some those weapons in there that way they get seen and the builder get his credit to his name. I know some guns have a lot of primes for those Take a Pictuer of them and the gun and hang it on the wall.

This is what i love..splitting hairs....A walking sticks primary function is to help someone walk....A gun has one function....and believe it or not i believe in the old addage...guns don't kill people, people kill people.....But if we go down this path we are not Starfleet.....We are Gun Smoke....Stick with the Dream Gene Roddenberry had folks...Let's be Starfleet...and live by the ideals of Peace....

Tee, I don't believe that my question regarding the definition of a weapon was splitting hairs. I believe it is, instead, a very valid one. If you don't believe me, then ask all those who were in Galaxy this afternoon and orbited thanks to a script from a griefer.
